Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO has announced during the company’s recent earnings call that the next launch will be smart glasses that are made in partnership with Ray-Ban.
Zuckerberg mentioned that the next product release is the Ray-Ban and EssilorLuxottica collaboration, complete with its iconic form factor and ability to do ‘pretty neat things’.
The company did not drill down on specifics or details, such as features or a time frame for the device but as far as previous information is concerned it may not have an integrated display and won’t be under the AR category.
The Ray-Ban glasses were said to be a part of Facebook’s foray into the augmented reality glasses industry, and has been working on it for a long time through the Project Aria and showing a prototype of the unit. It’s the company’s plans to build a multi-modal technology platform that blends physical and virtual space together for work, socializing and shopping.
