Amazon’s 2nd generation Fire TV Cube can now be used for 2-way Zoom conference calls.
Support for videoconferencing capabilities recently surfaced last year for Alexa smart displays and the Fire TV Cube, but it’s only now that Zoom in particular was opened.
The requirements for making it work include downloading the Zoom app, a webcam with at least 720p resolution and USB Video Class support and a micro USB to USB adapter. For the best possible picture the company recommends a webcam with full HD resolution and 60 to 90 degree field of view that’s set anywhere between 6 to 10 feet from the TV.
Once the hardware is set up users can speak to Alexa and say ‘Join my Zoom meeting’, then give the meeting ID and password. Signing into the Zoom app does the same thing.
Full details on how Fire TV Cube works with Zoom can be viewed on Amazon’s official blog.
